Getting Started: Turning Shiny Leather Back to Matte
Preparation: What Do You Need?
To get your leather interior looking neat and matte again, you'll need a few basic products. We use the following items:
- Monello Matte Opaco Interior Cleaner (Cleaner)
- Monello Spazzola Doppio (Brush Set)
- Monello Per Tutti (Cloths)
- Monello Interior Cleaning Kit (Above items plus two brushes)
- Dodo Juice Blue Roo Polishing Applicator (For Application)
- Gliptone Liquid Leather Conditioner (Leather Conditioner)

Step 1: Clean the Leather with the Right Tools
Start by cleaning the leather. Use Monello Matte Opaco Interior Cleaner and a set of brushes. For heavily soiled areas, it’s best to use the nylon-bristle brush, while the horsehair brush is perfect for lighter dirt and the finishing touch. The advantage of horsehair is that it absorbs the cleaner, allowing you to work with it for a longer period.
Do NOT spray the cleaner directly on the leather, always apply it to the brush or a cloth. This prevents the cleaner from seeping into seams or holes in the leather, where it would be harder to remove. Make sure to work from top to bottom while cleaning, so dirt and cleaner don't flow back onto the already cleaned areas. After cleaning, wipe the leather with a damp cloth to remove any leftover cleaner.

Step 2: Apply the Conditioner
After cleaning, it's time to condition the leather. Gliptone Leather Conditioner is ideal for this because it not only keeps the leather supple but also gives it a matte, grippy appearance. This prevents you from sliding around on the seat while driving.
Apply a small amount of conditioner to a microfiber applicator and spread it evenly over the leather. It's better to use small amounts and apply it in layers rather than one large blob, to prevent the conditioner from settling into the holes or seams. Let the conditioner sit for about ten minutes, then wipe the leather dry with a clean cloth. You’ll immediately notice that the leather looks fresh and matte again.

Step 3: Maintain Leather in Top Condition
Using a conditioner like Gliptone helps prevent dirt from sticking to the leather, making it easier to clean in the future. Repeat this maintenance regularly to keep your leather interior in top condition.

Your Turn!
In just a few steps, you can turn a glossy and smooth leather interior back to matte and grippy. By using the right products and techniques, like Monello Matte Opaco and Gliptone Leather Conditioner, your leather upholstery will be in perfect condition again. Remember to always use small amounts of cleaner and conditioner, and handle brushes and cloths carefully during the process. This way, you'll enjoy a beautiful, matte, and well-maintained interior for longer.
Hopefully, you’re now convinced that you can tackle your leather effectively and safely, becoming a true CleanRider yourself!
